Canadian Doctor Has Twice The Heart To Be A Hero!

Sometimes life is about being in the right place at the right time. Sometimes lucky means that the stars line up in your favour and things work out despite a bad situation. This happened to Darrell Parker, when he met Dr. Corey Adams.

After finishing a family hike at Grassi Lakes Trail near Canmore, Corey Parker collapsed. He was having a major heart attack and his family scrambled for help. Luckily Dr. Corey Adams heard the calls for help and shared the CPR duties with another brave passerby and Corey's wife. Paramedics and firefighters arrived quickly, and they were able to get Darrell's heart started again.

Dr. Corey Adams had just arrived April 1st from Newfoundland and started practising at The Cumming School of Medicine’s Libin Cardiovascular Institute, and by luck, was at the Trail the same time that Darell needed his help the most and beating the odds of surviving a cardiac arrest in the woods.

What is more incredible is that nine days later, Dr. Adams would get the opportunity to save Darrell's life again. Dr Adams was incredibly working at the Foothills Medical Centre in Calgary, the same hospital where Darrell was recovering. When visiting with The Parker's, they asked Dr. Adams if he could perform the quintuple bypass that Darrell needed. After agreeing, Dr. Adams performed the 4.5 hour procedure using arteries from Parker’s arm and chest. The surgery was a success.

An incredible meeting by accident that beat the odds of survival and has a happy ending. Check out the entire amazing story of how these two men's lives connected!

Definitely a meeting that these men will remember forever. “You can make a difference with CPR,” Parker said. This has definitely inspired me take Dr. Adams lead and to brush up and get some more training in CPR. You can get some information on increasing your CPR skills from The Canadian Red Cross today!
