Even though the hockey season is on hold for the moment, hockey fever is rolling in the collectables world with the online auction of a rare Connor McDavid Rookie Card at Lelands Auctions. The card has already received a bid of over $90,000 US! This makes this rookie card the most expensive modern day hockey card. This card was issued by Upper Deck and has the Oilers Captain's autograph as well as a patch from his game-worn jersey from his 2015-2016 rookie season . The current bid on the card is exceeding the expectations of everyone, especially the owners.
What makes this card so sought after and rare is that not only is the card just 1 of 99, it's number 97, Connor McDavid's jersey number. According to the director of acquisitions at the auction house, this is the unique attribute really pushing this card into the huge dollar and collector stratosphere. In fact, another Connor McDavid card, number 75 of 99 from the same Upper Deck series currently holds the record for most expensive modern day hockey card. It sold for a whopping $55,655 US in 2018 with 80 bids. A great Canadian, breaking records without even leaving the bench!
