Two Ps in a Great Canadian Pod(cast)?

Quite the opposite in fact! There are so many different types of podcasts. It's 2020 and podcasting has really come of age with more than 850,000 active podcasts worldwide and more than 30 million podcast episodes made.

So, with all this choice available you are sure to find something that interests you, that inspires you or just simply makes you laugh. And podcasts are a really great reason to take a Great Canadian Coffee Break!

What is a podcast and how to find them?

For those among us who have yet to pick a podcast and might even wonder what they are, put as simply as we can, a podcast episode is a digital audio file made available on the internet for downloading to a computer or mobile device. Think of it as an audio only version of a series available on Netflix, Prime or Disney+!

There are many podcasts apps available, such as the Apple Podcasts app (above left) and the Google Podcasts app (below left) that enable you to search for podcasts by title, genre, presenter etc. and then subscribe for free to make sure you don't miss a future episode!

Both of these apps are free to download. There are others available for a fee that offer different functionality but to get started we'd recommend checking out one of the free apps (of which these are just two) for a zero cost opportunity to take podcasts for a spin!

The Current

Canada's most listened to Radio program is also available as a podcast for you to enjoy on-demand and to make sure you don't miss an episode. Host, Matt Galloway, and his guests offer up a fresh look at issues affecting Canadians by poking and prodding them from new angles.

A biweekly history podcast about the country you know and the stories you don't, co-hosted by Leah-Simone Bowen and Falen Johnson. Heard of John Ware, Alberta's First Black Cowboy? This is just one example of the fascinating stories brought to life by Bowen and Johnson.

Other People's Problems

Normally, therapy sessions are totally confidential — but this podcast opens the doors. Hillary McBride MA, RCC, (PhD candidate in counseling psychology at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, British Columbia) and her clients want to help demystify mental health. No actors. No auditions. No artifice. Just real conversations.

No Sleep Til Sudbury

From Canadian icons like Ron MacLean and Rik Emmett to fans of music of all shapes and sizes it's fascinating to hear how music has impacted and continues to shape their lives.

Writers Bloc

Long-time journalists, Jeff Blair, Stephen Brunt and Richard Deitsch offer opinions, insight and analysis as some of the smartest sports observers in Canada. With a tagline, "Writers Bloc… sharp takes, not hot takes." you know they are going to have something interesting to say!
